Good day. Biked to Maadi in the morning (at 6 am!), cruised around Manial on the way back, then taxied it to Manshiyat Naser (Garbage City) in the late afternoon. As we sat in a cafe my friend pointed out the tap water we were served to go with our coffee and tea was yellow. I dared him to drink one glass for 5 Egyptian pounds. He drank two. Never gave him the money.

I am crowd-funding a bullet proof vest and gasmask
Due to the recent increase of violence on the streets of Cairo it is getting more and more dangerous for me to do my job as a freelance (photo)journalist. I am getting shot at on an almost daily basis and realistically it is only a matter of time before I get hurt in some way or another.
I need to get some decent protection, in the way of body armour (a bulletproof vest and a helmet) and a proper gas mask. Unfortunately those items are very expensive and way out of my freelancer budget. So I've decided to try and crowd-source them together. I've set up a campaign on Indiegogo, which you can support here. I am very grateful for every donation - even if it's only a euro! - and every penny put towards my goal will help protect my life!
The Dutch website ThePostOnline has been kind enough to dedicate an article to it and so has the Egyptian site CairoGossip.
