Some genius spray painted 'opening soon' on the wall of the burnt down NDP-building. Absolutely brilliant.

I was surprised it hadn't been painted over yet.

Why Ahmed Shafiq will be Egypt's next president

Egyptians are off to the voting booths again this weekend, for the second round of the presidential elections. The two remaining candidates are Ahmed Shafiq, the former Minister of Aviation, and Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood's back-up man. For many voters it will be a choice between the lesser of two evils. And that is exactly why Shafiq will win.

"Your burning headquarters was just a rehearsal, you son of a bitch", it reads. 

The black spray paint says 'glory to the marters'.

What I learned today (8): reporting can be dangerous

So, I got into a bit of a gnarly situation, trying to do some reporting...

The big news last night was that protesters had broken into (and later supposedly tried to burn down) the headquarters of Ahmed Shafiq, one of the two presidential candidates competing in the run-off for the Egyptian elections.

I had kept myself updated on the situation throughout the evening via Twitter, and had briefly attempted to take some photos of a small protest in Tahrir with a friend.

On my way home, I start thinking.
